Why does a broken heart hurt so much? And in general, why we use the word “hurts” when it comes to a breakup. Usually, we use the words pain and hurt when we speak about physical pain. Let’s talk about the connection between an unwanted breakup and physical pain.

A broken heart really hurts

I read a study that tried to answer the question of whether breakup hurts. They took 40 people who just had an unwanted breakup and felt an intensive rejection. The people were put in an MRI machine to see their brain activity during the experiment. They were shown a picture of their ex and were asked to think about the feeling they feel. After that, in the second part of the experiment, they felt a very strong heat, like a fire. The results of the study showed that the same areas in the brain were active in both cases. It means that there is a direct connection between breakup and pain.

It’s proof that broken heart hurts and when you feel the pain it’s true and it’s normal because this is how our brain works. This time I don’t have any specific advice, I just want to tell you about this study, so you can understand you aren’t going crazy. A broken heart is unpleasant so give yourself time for healing.
